Believe me that it happens to all, if not most, of us. You would be running the longer distances at a different pace anyway, a skill and capability which would come with training, and with race experience. Most runners have a different "gear" for 10K, 21K, and 42K. So versatility is the key. As a fellow newbie I don't have much advice to give but I do have the following suggestions. 1. Don't refrain from racing just because its not in the program, there are things that could only be learned in races and 2. Since you are aiming for a medal, it would be wise to make your debut in a "half marathon centric" event. In most events kasi, yung highest event lang ang may medal. Kapag 21K ang highest, almost always may medal yun. Pero pag may full na, dun na madalas wala yung half.
